Yup, it was a smooth quiet week for me; no catastrophes in the land of weaving, quilting, gardening, canning, etc.! I should knock on wood, right? I finished weaving towel number 10, 11 and 12 with about 6 to go this week and next if my loose warp holds up to the end. Then it’s on to cutting the project off the loom, zig-zagging the ends of each towel, cutting them apart, laundering them and hemming with the hope of gifting one to Paul’s daughter whose family we are spending Thanksgiving with in Louisville. This project could be successful after all!
The boat and dock were removed from the lake this past week and Paul cleared the porches for the winter. I am trying to protect my summer flowers a bit longer by keeping them close to the house but I think their days are numbered which will require some final garden cleanup. We haven’t packed up our canned goods yet, much of which we will gift to family and friends out west, but we will be transporting fewer boxes this year.
I’m still buying produce from the organic farmer up the hill so we had lots of fall veggies on hand to experiment with this weekend. Paul made a delicious squash soup, bean soup and vegetable chicken curry. He also sautéed fresh kale, carrots, onions, garlic and ginger together served as a side with baked salmon. I got some juicy late harvest apples and made apple chutney along with spiced apple jelly over the cold windy weekend. A late Saturday afternoon energy spurt led to a lemon buttermilk pound cake which was great to have on hand for dessert with a last minute supper guest.
It was also smooth sailing through my bi-weekly trips to town to work out with my trainer, stop by the library, finish a 600 page read and write a book review. If I successfully finish and submit this article, I will consider it a smooth productive week out here at the lake.
